The heartbreaking case of 6-year-old Corey Micciolo has left the nation in shock — and his father, Christopher Gregor, will now spend 25 years behind bars for his role in the boy’s death.
The tragedy began in April 2021 when surveillance footage from a New Jersey gym showed Gregor forcing his young son to run on a treadmill at dangerously high speeds. The child fell repeatedly — but instead of stopping, Gregor increased the pace.
Days later, Corey began to stumble, slur his speech, and experience severe nausea and breathing difficulty. His mother rushed him to the hospital, but it was too late.
An autopsy revealed devastating internal injuries — lacerations to his heart and liver, and signs of blunt force trauma to his chest and abdomen. The medical examiner concluded that these injuries were consistent with abuse, not an accident.
Despite the evidence, Gregor maintained his innocence throughout the trial, telling the court,
“I did nothing to cause Corey’s passing. I did not hurt my son.”
But the jury disagreed. After emotional testimony and harrowing video footage, Gregor was convicted of aggravated manslaughter and child endangerment.
During sentencing, the judge described Gregor’s behavior as “callous and cruel,” saying,
“This was not discipline. This was torture.”
Corey’s mother, Breanna Micciolo, sobbed in court as she read her victim statement:
“He was just a little boy who wanted his father’s love. Instead, he got pain.”
The case has reignited discussions about child abuse awareness, calling for better protections for children caught in custody disputes or unstable homes.
Gregor will be eligible for parole after serving more than two decades behind bars.
