“It Sounded Like Balloons Popping”
It was supposed to be the happiest moment of the evening. Inside a banquet hall in Stockton, California, over 100 friends and family members had gathered to celebrate a little girl’s 2nd birthday.[1][5][7][8][9][10][11][12] The lights were warm, the laughter was loud, and the centerpiece of the night—a beautiful birthday cake—sat on the table, ready to be cut.
Patrice Williams, the mother of the birthday girl, gathered everyone around. The room quieted down for the song. But just as the knife was about to slice into the icing, a series of loud pops rang out.
“I actually thought it was my balloons popping,” Williams said later, her voice trembling with shock. “It wasn’t balloons. It was gunshots.”
In seconds, the celebration of life turned into a scene of absolute horror. By the time the smoke cleared, four people were dd, eleven were wounded, and a community was left broken forever.
The Timeline of Tragedy
The nightmare unfolded just before 6:00 p.m. this past Saturday, November 29, 2025. The party was being held at a banquet hall on the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue, just outside the city limits of Stockton in San Joaquin County.
According to witnesses, the atmosphere was joyous. Children were running around, and families were catching up. Then, without warning, automatic gnfire erupted.
Investigators believe multiple sh00ters were involved.[1][2][3][5][7][9][10][11][12] Witnesses described a chaotic scene where bullets seemed to come from everywhere, ripping through the party decorations and striking guests who were standing near the cake.
“Everyone dropped to the ground the moment the shots rang out,” Williams recalled.[1][5][9][10][11][12] “It was just unexpected. I don’t know what happened, and I’m just so shocked and lost.”
While Williams grabbed her 2-year-old daughter and shielded her—miraculously keeping the toddler uninjured—others were not so lucky.
The Victims: Innocence Lost[13][14]
The toll of the attack is devastating. Among the four dd are three children, ages 8, 9, and 14.[1][2][4][5][7][8][9][10][11][12][15] The fourth victim was identified as 21-year-old Susano Archuleta.[2][4]
Emmanuel Lopez, Archuleta’s brother, told reporters that Susano was sht in the neck and dd at the scene.[2][4][8] “The only mistake this sweet boy made was being in the wrong place at the wrong time,” a family statement read. “He was simply being a kid at a kids’ party.”
Lopez also revealed that his own 9-year-old daughter was sht in the head during the chaos but, incredibly, survived. She is currently fighting for her recovery.

“They deserve to be in jail. They deserve to go to hell,” Williams said of the attackers.[1][5][7][9][10][11][12] “I’m sorry, but I just… it’s not respectable. It’s a kids’ party.”
A Community in Fear[7]
The aftermath of the shttng has left the Stockton community in a state of high alert and deep mourning. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office has launched a massive manhunt, but as of Tuesday morning, no suspects are in custody.

Neighbors near the banquet hall are also shaken. The Investigation Continues

“This is a time for our community to show that we will not put up with this type of behavior, when people will just walk in and kll children,” Sheriff Withrow said.[2][9] “If you know anything about this, you have to come forward. If not, you just become complacent and think this is acceptable behavior.”[2][7][9]
For Patrice Williams, the memory of her daughter’s 2nd birthday will forever be stained by the sound of gnfire and the sight of loved ones falling to the ground. She issued a tearful warning to other parents: “Consider having parties indoors, somewhere secure. Because you just don’t know who is watching.”
