Chicago, Illinois — Chaos erupted outside the Broadview ICE Detention Facility late Friday as Illinois State Troopers clashed with dozens of anti-ICE protesters who had blocked entrances to the building. According to officials, the demonstration began peacefully but escalated when protesters refused to disperse after repeated warnings.
Police confirmed that at least 24 individuals were taken into custody on charges of disorderly conduct and obstructing law enforcement. Video from the scene shows officers using zip ties and shields to remove several protesters who chained themselves to the facility’s gates.
In response to the growing unrest, former President Donald Trump issued a statement on Truth Social urging Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker to “restore law and order” and accusing state leaders of being “soft on illegal immigration.” Trump wrote, “When law enforcement is undermined, chaos wins. Illinois must take back its streets.”
Witnesses say the crowd included both local activists and national immigration-rights groups who gathered to protest federal deportations. Organizers called the arrests “a direct attack on free speech,” while law enforcement officials insisted the operation was necessary to maintain public safety.
Authorities report that no serious injuries were sustained, but tensions remain high as legal teams prepare to challenge the arrests. The Illinois State Police have stated that additional patrols will remain deployed through the weekend.
